One Last Mayor Update from Mayor Rachel Lumpee

5/11/2023

As my time as mayor draws to a close, I want to thank everyone. I have been honored to represent our community for the past few years and am genuinely proud of the hard work of everyone.

While the City is experiencing growth, I have remained committed to maintaining the charming, small-town atmosphere and will continue to strive to keep the heritage of Historic Blanco alive. Many things have been kicked down the road for many years and things have been done in the past that needed correcting. We were able to start the process to clean these issues up and now have professional staff members who have been needed for years to help with this. We are well aware that we don’t have all of the City’s affairs in order, but I truly believe we are on the right track. A smooth transition will take place between Mayor-Elect Arnold and me; we will all continue to work together to make things better for Blanco.

When I ran for office, I campaigned to update the city’s website to make it easier to navigate. I was able to secure the City a Dot Gov domain which is only available to genuine U.S.-based government organizations. I created the new website, cityofblancotx.gov, and have worked very hard maintaining this website. I also began utilizing the City’s social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, frequently to keep citizens updated. Citizens can also now view the City ordinances on the website or by visiting https://ecode360.com/BL6247. Citizens can now easily find information on the City’s website and I am happy to have helped with this project.

On April 26, 2022, the International Dark-Sky Association (IDA) officially approved the City of Blanco as an International Dark Sky Community (IDSC) and is currently one of only 40 communities in the world to have earned this distinction. In October 2022, the City of Blanco earned Gold Status for Scenic City Texas, one of 91. I am so proud of these recent designations.

I could go on and on about all that has been accomplished these past two years, but it would take an even longer article to convey everything. From protecting our water to participating in local parades and everything in between, it truly has been an adventure that I will never forget. This is not goodbye forever, as I will continue my roles within the community as the Blanco
County Eclipse Task Force coordinator and as Keep Blanco Beautiful’s PR Chair and Trash-Off coordinator. I've grown as a person in this role and am thankful to have met/worked with so many wonderful people. I absolutely love this City and always will.

Thank you for everything; it has been an honor serving as your mayor!
