Mayor’s Update: HWY 281 Historic Preservation Town Hall

4/10/2023

The HWY 281 Task Force will host a Town Hall on Thursday, April 13 at the Old Blanco County Courthouse. The doors will open at 5:30, and the presentation will begin at 6 p.m. where I will provide a brief update. However, this Town Hall will mainly focus on the historic preservation aspect. TxDOT historians have begun researching and documenting buildings, landmarks, cemeteries, rock fences, etc. of historic significance. We want to make sure we have documented all the history and need your help. We will have large maps for citizens to identify historical landmarks, ranches, and structures along HWY 281. We will also have scanners available for any photographs and/or documentation of historic places on your property. The expansion to HWY 281 is coming; TxDOT has begun looking at relief routes at the request of the City and having all the historic homes, rock fences, cisterns, barns, smokehouses, springs, creeks, etc. documented will help this process significantly. I hope to see everyone at the Town Hall on April 13.
