Mayor's Update: Trash-Off and other City Updates

3/9/2022

Welcome to Blanco!

First, I would like to welcome our new City Administrator, Warren Escovy, to Blanco. Mr. Escovy comes to us from Sealy, Texas, and has a background in planning. I would also like to officially introduce Teresa Currie, who has helped the City’s Finance Department as a contractor since August 2021; on March 1, she was brought on as a City employee in the role of Finance Admin. Ms. Currie has also been trained in other City Hall departments and has been instrumental in helping our Finance Director and other departments. We are so happy to have them as a part of our City Staff! Lastly, I would like to welcome Inframark to our community; the City Council approved the partnership between the City and Inframark during the Feb. 8, 2022, City Council meeting. The scope of work for Inframark includes everything the employees are currently doing: water and wastewater plant operations and maintenance; distribution and collection system operations and maintenance; meter reading and meter replacement; park mowing and Christmas lights; street repair associated with systems repairs and potholes; and minor building cleaning and repairs. Citizens will see the same Public Work faces working around town. The increase in professionalism and the resources available to Inframark should significantly impact plant operations and efficiency. We are looking forward to working with Inframark!

Trash-Off 2022

The City of Blanco will be hosting their Trash-Off event in conjunction with Keep Blanco Beautiful’s April 2 event. The City Yard, located at 455 Jones Avenue, will be open March 28 through April 1 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and April 2 from 8 a.m. to noon. This is a "rain or shine" event. The City Yard will be open only to City of Blanco residents and citizens will be required to show a voucher before unloading. Vouchers are available for pickup at City Hall during business hours. Materials such as trash, metal, batteries, electronics, cars, etc., will be accepted at this location. Tires, paints, household garbage, and animals/carcasses will not be accepted at the City Yard. Both dumpster diving and scavenging are prohibited. The City reserves the right to refuse any load that may be harmful or unsafe to persons or property, and is not responsible for any accidents, or damage, to personal property while participating in the Trash-Off event. City of Blanco residents who need help due to health concerns, disabilities, etc. can sign up at City Hall or online (https://forms.gle/64mTebr4w1DJXcaX6) for assistance. Citizens will be able to sign the list between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Keep Blanco Beautiful volunteers will collect the items on the curb on Sat., April 2.

Other City Updates

A group of volunteers is busy working on the Scenic City Certification Application for the City of Blanco. “The mission of the Scenic City Certification Program is to support and recognize Texas municipalities that implement high-quality scenic standards for public roadways and spaces. The Scenic City Certification Program provides a proven, highly regarded tool to Texas cities for assessment, evaluation, and recognition of infrastructure standards,” (https://sceniccitycertification.org). The application is due on April 30. PEC crews will be performing critical system improvements during March throughout the City. Work is scheduled from 9 a.m to 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 17; if there is inclement weather, work will be rescheduled for the following day, March 18. PEC will be sending out letters and phone messages to all affected citizens before March 17. The new City website is now up and I encourage all citizens to sign up for alerts, https://cityofblancotx.gov/subscribe. City staff, council, and commission/committee chairs are switching to new cityofblancotx.gov emails. We are still transitioning at this time so the old emails will remain active for the time being.
